As the end of the year rushes toward us, do you feel that familiar pull? That mix of excitement for a fresh start, but maybe a quiet dread about getting lost in the shuffle again? I certainly do.
For years, I used to feel overwhelmed by the pressure of setting big, scary "resolutions" that inevitably crumbled by February. It felt like trying to anticipate everything that should happen, leaving me feeling exhausted and disconnected.
That's why I want to share a practice that has profoundly changed how I navigate the turning of the year. It’s called Sankalpa Vidhi: Align, Release & Manifest, and it’s an invitation to step into the New Year gently, with a clear map, instead of feeling lost at sea.
The Heart of the Practice: Why Sankalpa Vidhi Works
I first learned a version of this from a wonderful teacher, Venessa, and over time, I’ve shaped it into something deeply personal. It’s a 12-night ritual that moves away from stressful goal-setting and focuses on three simple, powerful things:
Releasing the Weight: We gently let go of what no longer serves us.
Setting a Compass (Not a Destination): We ask for monthly guidance instead of trying to control the outcome.
Tapping In: We connect to our deepest, most heart-centered intentions.
This practice has become my reliable anchor. Instead of constantly wondering what’s next, I have a clear theme, a quiet prompt, or a message to guide me each month. I even snap photos of my cards or messages and make them my phone wallpapers, so every day, I'm subtly reminded of the energy I committed to carry. It helps me walk through the year with conscious choice, not panic.
If you feel overwhelmed, lost, or just craving a deeper connection to your path, please know this ritual is designed for you.

The Moon and Our Mission: Why New Moon Timing Matters
We are perfectly aligning this 12-night journey with the powerful energy of the New Moon (especially on the 20th this year). This timing is key!
The New Moon is the only lunar phase where the sky is truly dark, and that celestial darkness mirrors the quiet we need to cultivate within ourselves. When the outside noise is minimized, we are finally able to turn our attention fully inward and listen to the whisper of our soul. This phase represents pure potential—nothing has begun yet, but everything is possible.
By starting our Sankalpa Vidhi at the New Moon, we are intentionally aligning our personal cycles of growth with the universal cycle of creation and renewal. It ensures our wishes and intentions are planted in the richest, darkest soil imaginable, amplifying our power to manifest and welcoming a year rooted in trust over control.
How We Begin (No Pressure, Just Gentle Preparation)
We are perfectly aligning this 12-night journey with the powerful energy of the New Moon, which is all about new beginnings, rest, and renewal. It's the perfect time to plant our seeds of intention.
Here’s what you need to gather—keep it simple!
Your Gentle Toolkit
The Wishes Bowl: 13 deeply felt, personal wishes for growth, clarity, or expansion. Write them on small slips of paper. Don't overthink these—what does your heart truly crave?
A Guidance Source: This can be a deck of Tarot or Oracle Cards OR if you don't have cards (or prefer words!), you can create a Messages Bowl with 12–15 prepared affirmations or gentle guidance prompts.
To Record: A journal or your phone camera to capture your monthly guidance.
Safety First: A small, fire-safe bowl or dish for our release ritual.
The Most Important Thing: A few minutes of quiet space each evening, and a willingness to simply trust the process.
A Peek at Last Year’s Map
To show you how soothing this guidance can be, here’s how my own themes helped me last year:
January – Divine Timing: A perfect surrender, reminding me to stop rushing and trust the unfolding.
February – Self Love: A profound nudge to be kinder and honor my inner voice above all else.
April – Movement into Balance: A gentle command to listen to my body and harmonize my energy—less giving, more receiving.
August – Emotional Release: Permission to feel fully and safely process emotions, clearing the way for healing.
These messages weren't demanding tasks; they were quiet, insightful companions. They ensured I was navigating the year consciously, rather than just reacting to circumstances.
Let’s Step Into Clarity Together
We are going to do this ritual together, creating a shared container of energy, support, and reflection. When we share this journey, we move from being isolated in our intentions to being held in a collective space.
This is your chance to trade anticipation for action, distraction for focus, and overwhelm for heart-centered clarity.
For clarity, here is the step-by-step breakdown of how the 12-night ritual works:
Phase 1: Preparation (Start Before the New Moon)
Reflect: Take time for deep reflection and write your 13 wishes. These are your intentions for the year ahead—focus on growth, clarity, release, or expansion.
Prepare Guidance: Organize your Tarot/Oracle cards, or print, cut, and fold your 12–15 guidance messages/affirmations for the Messages Bowl.
I have this ready for you here. Just print this out.
Phase 2: Nightly Practice (12 Consecutive Nights)
Release: Each evening, take one of your 13 wishes and safely burn it in your fire-safe container. As the paper turns to ash, consciously release that intention fully to the Universe.
Receive: Immediately after, draw one card or select one message from your bowl.
Record: Note or photograph the card/message. This is your guiding theme for one of the 12 months ahead.
Repeat: Continue this process for 12 nights.
Phase 3: The Anchor
The 13th Wish: The very last wish that remains unburned is your most important focus—your primary Sankalpa for the entire year. All the other wishes are held and carried by the Universe.
This ritual grounds, inspires, and empowers, ensuring you enter the year intentionally rather than being dragged by circumstance.
