Not Every Trendy Remedy Is Right for You

Every season, new “wellness hacks” flood our feeds — ginger shots, fiery tonics, apple cider vinegar, cold-pressed juices. They all promise better immunity, glowing skin, and more energy.

But here’s the truth Ayurveda has been teaching for thousands of years:

✨ What works like medicine for one person can act like poison for another.

Why?

Because our bodies are not the same. We each have a unique prakriti (body nature) — and that changes how remedies affect us.

🌸 What’s Prakriti?

Prakriti is your natural constitution, the mix of energies you’re born with. Ayurveda explains it through three main types (doshas):

  • Vata (Air + Space)

    • Body: light, dry, cold, irregular digestion

    • Mind: creative, quick, adaptable

    • Prone to: anxiety, dryness, bloating, insomnia

  • Pitta (Fire + Water)

    • Body: medium build, warm, strong digestion

    • Mind: ambitious, focused, sharp

    • Prone to: acidity, inflammation, irritability, rashes

  • Kapha (Earth + Water)

    • Body: sturdy, heavy, steady, oily skin

    • Mind: calm, nurturing, patient

    • Prone to: sluggishness, mucus, weight gain, lethargy

💡 Important: You’re never just one dosha. We all have all three in us — usually one is dominant and another secondary. That’s what makes you unique.

🌱 Why Doshas Matter for Remedies

Let’s take a few popular examples:

  • Ginger Shots / Fiery Tonics → Great for sluggish Kapha, but can trigger acidity in Pitta and overstimulate dry Vata.

  • Apple Cider Vinegar → Helpful for Kapha digestion, but too acidic for Pitta and too drying for Vata.

  • Cold-Pressed Juices & Icy Drinks → Refreshing for Pitta, but can weaken digestion in Kapha and chill Vata too much.

See how different bodies react differently? That’s why blanket trends don’t work for everyone.

🌸 The Bigger Reminder

  • You have all three doshas, but one dominates your system.

  • Your prakriti (nature) stays the same, but your vikriti (imbalances) shift with diet, lifestyle, and stress.

  • Seasonal changes, like winter, can also tip the balance.

  • Instead of following trends blindly, tune into:

    • Is this remedy warming or cooling?

    • Is it light or heavy?

    • Is it drying or nourishing?

    • And most importantly — does it balance me, or aggravate me?

Trendy remedies aren’t bad — they just aren’t universal. The real “secret” to winter immunity (and year-round health) is knowing your prakriti and choosing accordingly.

Because the best remedy isn’t the trendiest — it’s the one that keeps you in balance.
